573 Butyl Tape
Description
573.12 is a general purpose, butyl rubber based adhesive/sealing compound. It is produced in convenient ready-to-use tapes or beads. It adheres instantly and adhesion will increase over time. 573.12 is designed to yield a 100% cohesive failure on most substrates and in most conditions. This material is resilient yet pliable and easily worked by hand. 573.12 will not flow, sag or pump from joints due to thermal expansion or contraction. It will bond to:
- Polyethylene (HDPE)
- Polyester (Mylar™)
- Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
- Glass
- Wood
- Aluminum
- Steel
Because of its excellent adhesion to most substrates, resistance to chemical attack, resiliency, creep resistance and its clean working properties, 573.12 may be used in almost any sealing application or as a laminating adhesive when applied as a 1/32-inch thick tape. The following examples are typical of the wide range of possible applications.
- Laminating adhesive for PVC, HDPE, joint compound, dry wall, concrete and laminates such as Formica®.
- Windows, panels and mullions in curtain wall and commercial building construction.
- A joint sealant metal frames and lap joints.
- Can be used wherever a freeze thaw material is required in refrigeration
Surfaces where 573.12 is applied need not be completely clean, although they should be dry. Materials should be tested in the intended application for product suitability. 573.12 is chemically inert. It is noncorrosive to paint, metal, aluminum or plastic and will not swell rubber.
