578 Re-extrudable Butyl Tape

Description

578 is a butyl based sealing compound manufactured in convenient, ready-to-use tapes and beads. It is designed for re-extruding to size on line and can be supplied in rope form wound on spools for easy use in on-site extrusion equipment. It will not pull back or shrink in length if pulled during application. Excess squeeze out can be easily cut and removed without any elongation or stretching occurring.

The material is soft, resilient and pliable. It adheres instantly to most commercial substrates including PVC, polyethylene, polyester, glass, aluminum and wood. Surfaces need not be completely clean, as the aggressive adhesion of 578 will accumulate through most commercial films. Material should be tested for each application.

578 is designed to yield a 100% cohesive failure under both wet and dry conditions. Material will not flow, sag or pump from joint due to thermal expansion or contraction. Because of its excellent adhesion to most materials, high resistance to chemical attack, resiliency, creep resistance and its clean working properties, 578 may be used in almost any sealing application.

  • Primarily designed for window and patio door back bedding applications where cutting and stripping of excess material is of utmost importance.
  • Seals, windows, panels and mullions in curtain wall and commercial building construction.
  • Fabrication of commercial and residential greenhouses.
  • Sealing shower door frames, joints between metal frames and tile walls.
  • Wherever a freeze-thaw stable material is required in refrigeration. Sealing metal lap joints of various types.

Application

578 is chemically inert, non-corrosive to paint, metal, plastic and will not swell rubber.
